Joseph W. Gilbert

Joseph W. Gilbert "Joe" passed away on May 12, 2020 in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He was born on April 2, 1925 and grew up in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. After WWII era service in the US Army he settled in Madison, Wisconsin. Joe earned bachelors and master’s degrees in business from the University of Wisconsin. On September 9, 1950 he married Maxine Smithberger. Following his undergraduate degree he joined the Wisconsin Power and Light Company. He was also a volunteer at the World Dairy Expo in Madison and White Elephant store in Tucson, Arizona. Joe and Maxine raised a son, Ross and a daughter, Jeanne. They retired to the Tucson area and returned to Waukesha, Wisconsin in 2013. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanne, his parents, William and Petronella Gilbert, two brothers, Francis and Marlon and a sister, Peg. He is survived by his son, Ross and daughter in law Ellen, grandchildren Kate Gilbert and Victoria (Jason) Kaufmann and a sister, Joan Lauer. After cremation there will be a private family memorial at a later date.
