Alexander “Alex” R. Herbst, of Waukesha, died on Monday, September 29, 2008 at Twin Oaks in Delafield at the age of 81. He was born in Waukesha on August 4, 1927 the son of Alexander Conrad and Anna (nee Fridie) Herbst. He served in the U.S. Army following high school. Alex had a passion for flying and was a private pilot who enjoyed flying in his AT6. Flying was his life. He was a member of the Waukesha Aviation Club and the EAA, Local Plumbers Union 75, and Local Operating Engineers Union 501 in California. Alex will be sadly missed by his son: Conrad (Lori) Herbst of Delafield, his daughter-in-law Kathleen Herbst of New Berlin, his granddaughters: Kathleen Herbst of Kansas City, MO and Kellie Herbst of Waukesha, his brother Gene (Marge) Herbst of Waukesha, sister Lois Splitt along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Sally, his son Steve, and brother-in-law Ken Splitt. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2008 from 9:00AM until the 11:00AM funeral service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, WI. Reverend Jason Lavann will preside. Interment will immediately follow at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.
