Audrey Lorraine Gertrude Hopkins

Audrey Lorraine Gertrude Hopkins (nee: Thoss) of Ottawa passed away peacefully on January 4, 2019 at AngelsGrace Hospice at age 84. She was born in Milwaukee on October 6, 1934, the daughter of Erwin Edward and Emma Clara (nee: Hoppe) Thoss. She moved out of Milwaukee with her family in 1948 and as she always said, “I wouldn’t go back for all the tea in China”. Audrey met a boy from a neighboring farm at a barn dance, and on August 29, 1953 she married him, Robert Hopkins, at Grace Lutheran Church in Waukesha. They farmed together for over 35 years, and Audrey was also employed by the Kettle Moraine School District in the Food Service Dept. for over 30 years. She fed many kids during those years, and no one ever left her house hungry. She was a volunteer with the Waukesha County Fair and along with her husband Bob was proud to serve as the Waukesha County Fair Marshal in 2010. She was an active member of the Waukesha County Holstein Breeders and the Waukesha County Dairy Promotion Committee. Audrey was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wales.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Lee (Donna) Hopkins of Ottawa, Rick (Robin) Hopkins of Wales and Ann (Kevin) Condon of Oshkosh and her daughter-in-law Laurel Hopkins of Waukesha. She was the grandmother of Matthew (Kristina) and Kurt Hopkins, Tony (Allison), Ella (fiancé Dan Rogers), Luke and Sean Hopkins, Amanda (Jared) Beauchamp and Megan Hopkins, and Erin, David and Nathan Condon; and great-grandmother of six. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents, siblings Dorothy, Will, and Jack, infant son Kenneth, and son Dale Hopkins.
Visitation will be held Wednesday January 9, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the 1:00 p.m. funeral service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 470 N. Oak Crest Dr. Wales, WI 53183. A private burial for the family will follow at Ottawa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to AngelsGrace Hospice, N74 W35908 Servants’ Way, Oconomowoc, WI 53066 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at AngelsGrace for their compassionate, loving care of their mom and grandma.
