Bernice H. Burbach, of Delafield, died on Friday, September 16, 2011 at LindenGrove Healthcare Center in Waukesha at the age of 99. She was born on November 14, 1911 in New Berlin the daughter of George and Katie (nee Puetzer) Petrie. Bernice attended Holy Apostles Grade School and St John’s Cathedral High School. On July 5, 1952 she married Clifford J. Burbach in New Berlin. For years they lived in Wauwatosa and were longtime members of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. Their only son, Robert, died from leukemia on February 24, 1963 at the age of 9. Years later Bernice and her husband retired to a home on Nagawicka Lake in Delafield. Prior to her marriage she worked for 13 years as a secretary at Kohler Sand and Gravel in New Berlin. Bernice was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She was currently a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Nashotah. She will be dearly missed by her nieces: the late Sara (Charles) Wieber of Waukesha, Catherine Guminey of New Berlin, Elizabeth (Jay) Ireland of Roswell, GA, and Jean Marie Petty of Alpharetta, GA, her nephews Joseph McCormack of Chesterfield, MO, Larry (Karen) Whitehaus of West Orange, NJ, Brian (Christine) Whitehaus of New Berlin, and Gregory Whitehaus of Muskego. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford on October 22, 1997 and their son Robert, her sisters: Loretta Flanagan and Marie Whitehaus, brothers: Sylvester Petrie and Alphonse Petrie and her parents. The family would like to thank the staff on Dogwood Court at LindenGrove and Seasons Hospice, especially Julie and Tom for their attention and loving care. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 from 9:30AM until the 11:00AM funeral Mass all at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 120 Nashotah Road, Nashotah, WI 53058. Rev. Michael Strachota will preside. Burial will be at Holy Apostles Cemetery in New Berlin.
