Bonnie J. Engelking of Waukesha died on Monday, February 25, 2019 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 77. She was born in Oconomowoc on April 26, 1941 the daughter of Fredrick and Margurite (nee Place) Behrend. She was a 1959 graduate of Oconomowoc High School and 1962 graduate of the Columbia Hospital Nursing School. While in high school, Bonnie was involved with the Service Club and National Honors Society. She began her career at Waukesha Memorial Hospital until she took time off to raise her family. She enjoyed volunteering in the health room at Prairie Elementary during the 1970’s, before returning to work in the 1980’s at Westmoreland Health Care and Linden Grove, retiring in 1997. Bonnie was proud to have won the Woman of Distinction award from the YWCA for her volunteer work with the Red Cross.
She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of almost 55 years, William of Waukesha and their children, William Scott (Dawn) Engelking of Winnetka, IL, Brett (Elizabeth) Engelking of Genesee and Brian (Keri) Engelking of Delafield. She was the proud grandmother of Kristin Engelking, Erik Engelking, Emily (Lucas) Winchowky, Logan Engelking, Jacob Engelking, Benjamin Engelking and Madelyn Engelking. She is further survived by her brothers, Fred (Evelyn) Behrend of Oconomowoc and Pete Behrend of Red Granite along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Beverly Titzer and brothers, Louis and Phillip Behrend.
Bonnie was devoted to her family and enjoyed their many family camping trips throughout the United States. Her love and care of animals was evident in many ways (she always had time to care for her pets and other people’s pets). Bonnie was an advocate for the enrichment and betterment of the environment and was interested in making a difference through actions and words and she was always interested in current events. She had great respect for faith, education, equality, and fairness. Bonnie touched many lives and will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until time of the 11:00 a.m. memorial service at the Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S.
