Charles C. Burton, of Waukesha, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, September 28, 2015 at AngelsGrace Hospice at age 88. He was born in Milwaukee on November 3, 1926, the son of Charles Vernon and Amanda (nee Bucholtz) Burton. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII as a staff sergeant from 1945 until 1946 under General MacArthur in Japan during the Pacific Theatre. On September 9, 1950 he married Bonnie Moen. Charles was a 1951 graduate of Carroll College and earned his Master’s Degree from UW-Milwaukee in 1958. He worked as a principal for Union, Lowell, Meadowbrook and Whittier Elementary Schools before retiring in 1986. Charles was a member of the Wisconsin Retired Educators’ Association (WREA) and was an honored member of the State Principals WREA. He was the past President of WASA and SMESPA, a member of the Waukesha Elks Lodge #400, and a member of RiverGlen Christian Church.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Bonnie Burton of Waukesha and their children, Richard “Rick” Burton of Milwaukee, David Burton of Chicago Heights and John (Kim) Burton of Waukesha. He was the dear grandfather of David A. Burton of Chicago Heights, Eric Burton of Chicago and Abby Burton of Waukesha. He is further survived by his brother John “Tim” (Jean) Burton of Largo, FL, his sister Suzanne Abbott of St. Petersburg, FL, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Janet (Rodney) Horning.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. The Elks Lodge of Sorrow Service will begin at 6:45 p.m. with religious funeral service to follow, all held at the funeral home. Pastor Ben Davis will preside. Interment with full military honors will take place on Monday, October 5th at 1:30 p.m. at Prairie Home Cemetery. Please meet at the cemetery.
