Daniel “Dan” E. Hanson of Waukesha passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2019 at Seasons Hospice at the age of 89. He was born on October 10, 1929 in Merrill, WI to Louis and Gertrude (nee Friske) Hanson. On August 21, 1954 he married his beloved wife, Audrey Waldburger; she preceded him in death on April 22, 2013. Together, they were longtime members of St. Luke's Lutheran Church where Dan sang in the choir and served on the counting teams and as an usher. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, earning his honorable discharge on January 29, 1953 and from the United States Army Reserves on November 23, 1956. Dan worked as a welder for a number of companies including Archie Ladwig, Orley Meyer and finally at H & K. Dan and Audrey enjoyed sports and were avid Badgers, Brewers, Bucks and Packer fans. He enjoyed countless trips to his sister’s cottage near Iola, WI where he spent hour upon hour in the fishing boat. Dan was a great bowler, once winning the City Doubles Championship and he was a longtime member of the Waukesha All Star League at Fracaro’s in Waukesha. He also enjoyed playing cards, trips to the casino and golfing, proudly scoring a hole-in-one back in 1981 on Hole #7 at Moor Downs. Dan found a second family at his beloved Tally’s Tap on Sunset Drive in Waukesha.
Dan will be deeply missed by his son Phil (Mary) Hanson of Waukesha; his granddaughters, Christie Hanson and Sarah Hanson; his sister Edie Czarnyszka of Menomonee Falls; sister-in-law, Marlyn Giese of Sussex; nieces, nephews other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Audrey, he was preceded in death by his daughter Donna; brothers, Joseph (Jeanette) Proulx, Edward (Lois) Hanson and Elmer Hanson; sister Ethel (Dan) Tomasini; brother-and-sister-in-law Jerry and Doris Waldburger; and brothers-in-law Charles Giese and Harry Czarnyszka.
The visitation for Dan will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 10:00 AM until the 12:00 noon memorial service at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 300 Carroll St., Waukesha, WI 53186. Military honors will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the family.
