Demetria Gomez, a longtime Waukesha resident, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at home surrounded by her family at the age of 89. She was born in Mexico on May 30, 1925 the daughter of Demetrio and Narcisa (nee Rios) Cadena. On September 13, 1943 she married Sijifredo Gomez; he preceded her in death on October 26, 2003. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Demetria enjoyed her home, her flower garden and her dogs Paquita and Jethro but most of all she loved being with her family. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She will be sadly missed by her nine children, Criselda (the late Heriberto) Villarreal, Mary Magdalena (John) Basckai, M. Olivia (Ernesto) Villarreal, Sijifredo (Marcia) Gomez Jr., Demetria M. (Phillip) Cervantes, Joseph A. (Roxanne) Gomez, Gloria Colglazier, Richard (Jean) Gomez and Bertha (Mario) Gonzalez, 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sisters Maria Louisa Cerda and Catalina Villarreal along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband Sijifredo and her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, Trinidad, Francisca, Martin, Santos, Jesus, Juan and Julian.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 9:00AM until the time of the 11:00AM funeral Mass all to be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186 (Corner of Hartwell and Newhall Avenues). Graveside services will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
