Donald R. Tiegs Sr. of Vernon passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at the age of 78. He was born in Waukesha on September 18, 1945 the son of Otto and Martha (nee Rupp) Tiegs. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, working as part of the stealth team working on the development of the F117A Nighthawk. He retired from the Air Force after 26 years of service and went on to work for ProHealth as a transport driver for 21 years. On January 13, 1968 he married his beloved wife, Shirley (nee Hilscher) Tiegs; she recently preceded him in death on July 28, 2023. Donald enjoyed traveling the country with his wife, bowling, golfing, his dogs, spending time on his tractor in the yard and was a huge Packer fan. Most of all he loved being with his family and attending and cheering on his grandchildren at their various events and activities.
He will be sadly missed by his loving son, Donald R. Tiegs Jr. (Jessica) and his cherished grandchildren, Brianna, Erick and Tyson Tiegs who he was so proud of. He is further survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife of 55 years, Shirley, he was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Betty Palmer, Edward Otto Tiegs, Sr., Audrey Johnson, William Tiegs, Kenneth Tiegs, Sally Whipple and Bonnie Zimmerman.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Burial with full military honors will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Donald’s name are appreciated to Wisconsin Veterans Fishing Camp.
