Doreen Chause of New Berlin, Wisconsin passed on to her richly deserved heavenly reward on August 19, 2013 at Linden Grove Nursing Home in New Berlin. She was born in South Bend, Indiana on December 19, 1938 to Joseph A. Chause and Dorothy Kubiak Chause.
Doreen graduated from Holy Family Academy High School, Manitowoc, WI and then received her B.A. from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, WI. She later received a Master’s in Education degree from Marquette University.
Doreen was committed to Catholic education and taught at several Catholic grade schools in the Milwaukee area including St. Mary’s in Waukesha, St. John Vianney in Brookfield and Holy Apostles in New Berlin. Upon her retirement from Holy Apostles, she continued to serve as a teacher’s aide at St. Margaret Mary School in Milwaukee. Doreen also volunteered as a Religious Education Teacher at St. Mary’s Parish in Hales Corners. Ms. Chause or Ms. C as she was fondly referred to in the classroom had a passion for science. She is remembered by her students for “rocket day” and the many real world experiments that made the study of science relevant and fascinating. A Facebook page, Ms. Doreen Chause, has been created by a former student. The postings include tributes from numerous students from throughout the world many of whom commented that they chose careers in science related fields because of the intellectual fire Doreen lit in their middle school years. Doreen cared deeply about all her students but had a special soft spot for those who struggled in any way taking them gently under her wing.
Doreen received numerous awards and recognition during her teaching career including an award for Dedicated Service at Holy Apostles School, 25 Years of Teaching Award (1982 – 2007) and the Wisconsin Elementary Science Teacher (W.E.S.T.) Distinguished Teacher Award in 2006
Doreen loved participating and coaching many sorts particularly softball. She loved watching the Packers, Brewers, Badgers and Marquette Basketball on TV and was a lifelong Notre Dame Football enthusiast as well a fan and constant supporter of the Catholic Memorial High School football teams.
In addition to her parents, Doreen was preceded in death by brother Joseph Chause. She is survived by her brother Robert Chause (Tina) of Waukesha, sister in law, Sharon Chause of Marquette, Michigan, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is further survived by her very special friend, Sister Roberta Zelhofer, S.F.C.C. Doreen was a dog and cat lover and will be missed by her chocolate lab, Beaney.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 8:30AM until 9:15AM with the memorial Mass beginning at 9:30AM at Holy Apostles Catholic Church 16000 W. National Avenue in New Berlin. Doreen has donated her body to the University of Wisconsin Body Donor Program. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Linden Grove New Berlin, 13755 W.
