Dorothy L. Rex was born February 3, 1925, in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The only child of Gustav and Bertha Toffel, she was blessed with 3 older siblings, as her mother had been previously widowed. Within days of her birth, her parents summoned the Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church to baptize her in the home through the gospel in Word and water for adoption into God’s family. The Savior nourished the faith he had created in Dorothy’s heart, and led her to confess this faith publicly. She was confirmed in the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waukesha, Wisconsin, on April 10th, 1938. After graduating from Waukesha High School, she attended Secretarial School. Dorothy was briefly married to Ralph Falk and gave birth to Stephen. After suffering the pains of a divorce, she worked as a secretary for a bank president in the Milwaukee area. It was there that she met Allen Rex, and married him on March 31, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waukesha, Wisconsin. Dorothy and Allen were able to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary in 2013.
During Dorothy’s marriage, she fulfilled the role of homemaker, wife and mother. While living in Wisconsin, she served the Lord by visiting church members who were shut-ins, drove for the Red Cross, and was part time Organist for the church. After a move to Florida in 1971, she voluntarily served the Lord at Peace Lutheran Church, Holiday, Florida, as church organist for 42 years. After the death of her youngest daughter, Constance in 2011, and husband, Allen in 2013, she resided in assisted living until an injury in 2017 determined her need for skilled nursing care. Visits by her Crown of Glory Lutheran Church family and Pastor, along with the forgiveness of her sins through Holy Communion provided comfort and peace. She remained faithful to her Lord and God until Jesus called her home.
We who remain behind, daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Bob Seifert (Ocoee, Florida); grandson, Bryce Seifert, great-grandchildren, Isabella and Samuel (Ocoee, Florida); son and wife, Stephen and Gail Falk (Custer, Wisconsin), grandchildren Andrew Falk (Amy), Kristen Luebke (Ken), Lori Beth Malec (Brad) and great- grandchildren, Brandon, Christopher, April, Aaron, Justin and Jeremy, cling in faith to Jesus Christ, our only Savior. We wait in anticipation for the day all will rise from the grave and believers in Jesus Christ will reside with Him in his heavenly kingdom. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in his blood, be honor and glory and power now and forever. Amen.
Funeral services were held in Florida. Private burial will be at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.
