Ethel Bremer

Ethel “Daisy” M. Bremer of Waukesha passed away peacefully Thursday, December 31, 2009 at her home at the age of 90.  She was born on July 22, 1919 in Whitefish Bay, the daughter of Fred and Blanche (Clark) Whetter.  In a double wedding ceremony with her brother Clark, Ethel was united in marriage to Gordon Bremer on June 8, 1946 at the First Presbyterian Church in Waukesha.  Ethel and Gordon enjoyed the years living in the Waukesha home that they built together in 1950.  They shared many wonderful memories with their Hillside/Harris neighbors.  Ethel tirelessly volunteered countless hours at the Waukesha YWCA supervising the maintenance and equipment of the building.  She also was a devoted YW “Peanut Lady” for 42 years.  Ethel was honored with The Outstanding Volunteer Service award as YWCA Woman of the Year in 1972.  She was also a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served on many boards and committees over the years.  Ethel and Gordon loved the outdoors and traveling across the country.  They especially enjoyed their family trips out west.  Ethel was very proud of the fact that she and Gordon had driven to Alaska three times.  They also enjoyed “up north” with family and friends especially at the “Wee Hoose” on Crooked Lake.  There were many happy times and celebrations shared at the family cottage.  Ethel not only was an avid sports fan, but also actively participated in many sports throughout her life.  She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and music performances. Ethel was a loving mother and will be deeply missed by her son, Bill (Shirley) Bremer of Madison, and her daughters:  Barb (Bill) Taege and Bev (Terry) Cappozzo, both of Waukesha.  She was extremely proud of all her grandchildren:  Ann, Kimberly, Kristin, and Andrew Bremer, Lindsey, Kate and Will Taege, and Carly and Tony Cappozzo.   She is further survived by nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon in 1998; infant daughter Bonnie; and her brother Clark Whetter. A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 with visitation from 9:30 AM until the 11:30 AM funeral service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha.  Burial will follow at Wisconsin Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Ethel's memory are appreciated to the charity of the donor’s choice.  The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Caring Place, Helpmates, and Heartland Hospice for providing Ethel with the loving care that allowed her to stay in her home.  Even though Ethel’s memory slowly faded, her stories and life will always be remembered and live on in our hearts.  For further information, please contact Randle-Dable Funeral, Cremation and Preplanning Services at (262) 547-4035, or go to www.waukeshafunerals for directions or to leave an online tribute.
