Ethel A. Smith, of Waukesha, “went home” Monday, September 12, 2011 at Waukesha Springs Nursing Home at the age of 81. She was born on April 19, 1930, in Waukesha, the daughter of Charles and Georgia (nee Heiser) Close. For many years she was a Housekeeping Supervisor at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1995. Ethel was a very hard working self-reliant woman who was always there to lend a hand to those in need. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her children: Martin (Linda) Smith of Watertown, Floyd Smith of Waukesha, Phyllis (Vern) Lembke of Eagle, Daniel Smith of Waukesha and Michael (Pat) Smith of Waukesha. Dear grandmother of Tracey (Kerry) Lischka of Johnson Creek, Tim Smith of Watertown, Tammy Smith of Watertown, Jr. Smith of Waukesha, Becky (Randy) Rendon of Sussex, Billy (Stephanie) Smith of Waukesha, Gregg (Heather) Lembke of Eau Claire, Angela Merryfield of Palmyra, Brianna Smith of Waukesha, Mikayla Smith of Waukesha, David (Kim) Smith of Waukesha, and Douglass (Tonia) Smith of Sussex. She is further survived by 28 of great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and her brother Jack Close of Waukesha; sister Mary Dodge of Gillman. She was preceded in death by her son Lawrence (Debby) Smith, as well as, her brothers and sisters.
