Evelyn J. Burrie, of Waukesha, died on Monday, March 24, 2014 at LindenGrove at the age of 90. She was born on July 21, 1923 the daughter of John and Ella E.A. (nee Schmidt) Hopkins. On November 25, 1950 she married Walter Burrie at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waukesha; he preceded her in death on March 6, 2006. Evelyn worked as an office manager at the Almont Building and then at Montgomery Sign Company. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church until 1955 when she joined Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Evelyn was an active member of the church where she enjoyed volunteering and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Disabled American Veterans Waukesha County Chapter #5 and a lifelong member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Soat Vergenz VFW Post #721. Evelyn loved gardening and baking, but most of all she enjoyed being with her family. She will always be remembered as a beloved mother and grandmother.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Bill Burrie of Waukesha, Jim (Mary Ann) Burrie of Waukesha and Janet (Bob) Pruess of Franklin; her grandchildren, Pete (Melissa) Burrie, Sarah (Beethoven) Carabacan, Scot (Jenny) Burrie, Dan, Tim and Paul Burrie and Jennifer and John Pruess; and her great-grandchildren, Malachi and Matthias Burrie and Isaiah, Moriah and Dalaiah Carabacan. She is further survived by her brother Robert (Audrey) Hopkins of Ottawa along with cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband Walter, she was preceded in death by her youngest son David, her brother Edward and her sister Eleanore.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 9:30AM until the time of the 11:00AM funeral service all held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1052 Whiterock Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186. Pastor Lawrence Gates will preside. Burial will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Pewaukee. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
