George A. Sawchuk, of Pewaukee, died Dec. 31, 2015 at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center at age 69. He was born on November 9, 1946, the son of George and Mabel (nee Williamson) Sawchuk. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam earning the rank of Sgt. E5 and a Purple Heart.
George graduated in1964 from Cudahy High School, attended UW-Eau Claire and following his military service, earned his degree at Concordia College. He was President of MAF Co. WI for 15 years and spent his working years in the insurance field.
George loved the outdoors, especially skiing, fishing, and swimming. He was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed relaxing with a cup of coffee and a good book while sitting on his porch. He loved his family and was always the first one to call on a birthday or other holiday.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter Elizabeth (Kyle) Zak, his siblings, Betty (the late Bill) Luke, Nancy (the late Roscoe) Moro, Ronald (the late K’Ellen) Sawchuk and Gloria (Gary) Rongstad. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Special thanks to the caring staff on 8A South at the VA Hospital for their wonderful care.
Visitation will take place on Sat. Jan 16, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the noon memorial service at Salem United Methodist Church, 541 Hwy 59, Waukesha, WI 53186. Military honors to follow the service. Private interment will be held at a later date. If desired, memorials to the family in lieu of flowers, are appreciated.
