Georgene Ruth Gunther, of Waukesha, died on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at LindenGrove in Waukesha at the age of 89 years. She was born in Waukesha on July 13, 1924 the daughter of Arthur and Pauline Alm. She proudly served her country in the United States Army as Air Transport Command in France. On May 3, 1947 she married David Gunther at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church; he preceded her in death on November 26, 2008. Georgene enjoyed knitting, crocheting, rummaging and loved cats. She was a longtime and active member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church where she participated in the OWLS group and sung in the church choir. Georgene loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her three children: Sally (Dannie) Majerus of Waukesha, Jim (Judy) Gunther of Delafield and Steve Gunther of North Prairie; her grandchildren: Christopher Majerus, Rebecca (Todd) Mueller, Patricia Majerus, Holly (Kristopher) Broehm, Justin (fiancée Maggie Johnson) Gunther, Lauren Gunther, and Jeremy Gunther and her great-grandchildren: Jason, Colin, Jacob, Nicholas, Bella, Logan, Trever, and Gavin. She is further survived by her sister Betty Anders of Waukesha along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 11:00AM until the time of the 12:30 PM Funeral Service at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, 700
Beechwood Ave., Waukesha, WI 53188. Rev. Wayne Borgwardt will preside. Burial with full military honors will immediately follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.
