After a courageous battle with cancer, Gerry found peace on Friday, March 2, 2018 at AngelsGrace Hospice when he was called home to Heaven. Gerry was born to his earthly life on August 5, 1944 in Fond du Lac, WI, the 3rd son of the late Earl and Rosella Reichert.
Gerry graduated from Carroll in 1966 as the first person certified to teach physical education in a new program offered at the school. Gerry earned a master’s degree in administration from UW-Milwaukee and certified in adaptive physical education and driver education from UW-Whitewater. In 1986, Gerry was inducted into the Carroll Hall of Fame.
Gerry began his teaching career in 1966 at Butler Middle School and retired from Horning Middle School in 2003. In addition, Gerry taught driver’s education out of North High School and South High School. Gerry coached cross country and track at Waukesha South and intramurals at the middle school level.
Gerry loved being outdoors, caring for his yard, observing wildlife, working with wood and running. He was a lifetime member of Salem United Methodist Church and served in many capacities. He also attended Elmbrook Church since 1999.
Gerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna (nee Church) and his much-loved children, Marie (Steve) Broege of Waukesha, Marc (Kimberly) Reichert of Winston-Salem, NC and Brent (Sheri) Reichert of Cudahy. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Aaron, Nathan, Emily, Stephanie, Andrew and Evan who brought joy and happiness to their grandpa.
Further surviving is his brother Ken (Phyllis) Reichert, sisters-in-law Arlene Reichert, Lori (Gary) Snyder, and Kelly Lutzow and brother-in-law Kevin Church, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother Ron Reichert and brothers-in-law Brian and Dennis Church.
Gerry was blessed by Jack and Mary Schickowski, the ProHealth Cancer Center and AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc.
A celebration of Gerry’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 with visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the 1:00 p.m. memorial service at the Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Avenue, Waukesha. Pastor Doug Schoen will preside. Inurnment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery. Memorials may be offered in Gerry’s name to the Salvation Army, 445 Madison Street, Waukesha, WI 53188.
