Gladys M. Pope, former longtime resident of Crookston, Minnesota, died on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Virginia Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waukesha at the age of 102. She was born on January 12, 1907 in Shelly, Minnesota, the daughter of Peter and Constance (Johnson) Moen. Gladys will be sadly missed by her daughters: Conny (Ron) Fries of Waukesha and Mary “Betty” Thompson of East Grand Forks, MN; grandchildren: Todd (Kathy) Fries of Waukesha and Tracy (Dave) Thompson of Waukesha; and great-grandchildren: Caleb and Hannah Fries, and Samuel, Caroline, and Natalie Thompson. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Sullivan in 1943, her second husband, Ray Pope in 1963, and her son, William Sullivan. Our mother was a gentle, soft-spoken woman who faced life’s challenges with courage and kindness. We will carry her love and inspiration with us always. She will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held in the summer in Crookston, MN. Her final resting place will be in Shelly Cemetery in Minnesota.
