Gordon F. Smyczek of Mukwonago passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at the age of 90. He was born in Milwaukee on June 30, 1933 the son of Louis and Anna (nee Woida) Smyczek. Following the death of his mother at a young age, his father married Angie Smyczek who helped raise him. Gordon proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the VFW Post 9399 in Arizona and the American Legion Post 375 in Mukwonago. He worked for Allis Chalmers, Rexnord and retired from Trent Tube in 1993. Gordon enjoyed fishing, reading, watching sports, especially the Packers, being with his friends at Birchrock in Mukwonago, but most of all he cherished the time he was with his family.
He will be sadly missed by his son, Brian (Vicki Nelson) Smyczek of Beaver Dam, daughter, Roseanne (Tom) Wagar of Slinger; grandchildren, Melinda (Artemus Valdez) Smyczek, Brian J. (Miranda) Smyczek, Tyler Wagar and Gregory Wagar; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Leana and Nolan; and his sister Geraldine (the late Terry) Alenius. He is further survived by his step-children and their families, Conrad (Lisa) Morgan, Terry (Kathy) Morgan, Thomas Morgan, and Monica (Scott) Hanneman along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Ruby, his first wife and dear friend, Marianne Smyczek; his son David Smyczek and stepson Russell Morgan.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral Mass at St. James Catholic Parish, 830 E. Veterans Way, Mukwonago, WI 53149. Entombment with full military honors will be held Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield. Please meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gordon’s name are appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
