Gregoria “Goya” Alvarez, age 89 of Waukesha, went to heaven to join her beloved husband, Julio, and two sons, Julio Jr. and Andre, on Sunday, July 27, 2008, surrounded by her two daughters and family. Goya was born on September 9, 1918 in Sequin, Texas, the daughter of Nasario and Guadalupe (Mansanares) Garcia. She married Julio Alvarez Sr., in 1937 in San Antonio, Texas; he preceded her in death in 1991. She was employed as a cook at Herbies Pub, where she was well known for her enchiladas. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waukesha. Goya will be sadly missed by her children: Lupe (Manuel) Villarreal of Waukesha, Mary (Jose) Ramirez of West Milwaukee; daughters-in-law: Carmen Alvarez, and Kristy Alvarez, and first wife of Julio Jr., Stefie Alvarez, all of Waukesha; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Natalia (Jose) Medina of Waukesha, Constance (Albert) Garcia of Waukesha, Cruz (Gustano) Chavez of Waukesha, Julian (Octavia) Garcia of Milwaukee, Carlos (Delia) Garcia of Waukesha, and Rabul (Navia) Garcia of San Antonia. In addition to her husband, Julio Sr., and her parents, she is preceded in death by two sons: Julio Alvarez, Jr. in 2006 and Andre Alvarez in 2007; and brothers: Sipriano (Maria) Garcia, Victor (Hilaria) Garcia, and Eusebio (Jovita) Garcia. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2008 from 4:00 PM until the 8:00 PM Rosary Service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, WI. Services continue on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the funeral home with prayers at 9:45 AM, followed by procession to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 822 N. East Ave., Waukesha, for the 10:30 AM Funeral Mass. Fr. Bill Key will preside. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
