Harry W. Leeman, of Waukesha, was called to heaven peacefully surrounded by his family at Seasons Hospice on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the age of 85. He was born in Oshkosh on March 16, 1929 the son of Clarence and Elva (nee Curtis) Leeman. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On June 17, 1950 he married Margaret Hoppe in Oshkosh. Harry worked as a science teacher at New Berlin West High School for many years primarily teaching biology and he also enjoyed teaching part-time at Carroll College. Harry was named Wisconsin’s Teacher of the Year award in 1979. Harry was passionate about environmental education and was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed camping, hiking, volunteering at the recycling center, carving and woodworking. Harry enjoyed studying birds and was a member of the Benjamin F. Goss Bird Club. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family and he will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Margaret of Waukesha and their children, John Leeman of Waukesha, David (Rose) Leeman of Waukesha, James (Wendy Kontowicz) Leeman of Waukesha and Mary (Gary) Rohrmayer of Lindenhurst, IL. He was the dear grandfather of Christian Leeman, Jessica (Ruben) Escobedo, Rebecca Leeman, Matthew Leeman, Todd Leeman, Jeana (Josh Dahl) Leeman and Joshua, Daniel and Kallie Rohrmayer and great-grandfather of Tyson and JayLee. He is further survived by his brothers Ronald and Leland, sister Jeannine, brother-in-law Ralph (Josephine) Hoppe along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his late sister Lois Elliott.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Services will begin at 12:30PM all to be held at the Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Avenue, Waukesha. Graveside services with full military honors will follow for the family at Prairie Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Harry’s name are appreciated to the Retzner Nature Center, S14 W28167 Madison Street, Waukesha, WI 53188.
