James A. “Jim” Cheek, Jr. of Waukesha, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 5, 2010 at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc at the age of 55.  He was born on June 1, 1954 in Milwaukee, the son of James Sr. and Elvira (Pelligrini) Cheek.  Jim was a graduate of Custer High School in Milwaukee, at which time he played baseball and achieved All-City status.  While attending the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, he played catcher on the baseball team, and was also on the football and swim teams.  Jim was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for over 32 years, and most recently worked at the Waukesha Post office for many years.  He also was a freelance photographer during Packer games for Reuters News Service.  Over the years, he continued his love of baseball by playing on four different baseball teams in Waukesha as well as coaching.  The most important things to him were his membership at First Assembly of God in Waukesha and being a devoted father.  Jim will be deeply missed by his son and best friend, Anthony James Cheek of Waukesha; his sister, Barbara (Daniel) Johnson of Delafield; nephew, Michael (Kelly) Johnson; niece, Julie Johnson; and grandnephew, Ian Johnson.  He is also survived by Jackie Sader and her parents, Mike Sader, Mike and Renee Hedtcke, Matt Hedtcke, Tim Hedtcke, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at First Assembly of God, 1314 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, followed by a celebration of his life at 4:00 PM.  Pastor Verne Hagenbeck will preside.  Jim’s final resting place will be at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.
