James “Jim” L. Congdon Sr. of Waukesha passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at AngelsGrace Hospice following a short battle with cancer on Monday, September 3, 2018 at the age of 89. He was born in Burlington, WI on October 23, 1928 the son of Virgil and Lurena (nee Jose) Congdon. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy serving on the USS Hampton (APA-115) and USS San Carlos (AVP-51) and earned the WWII Victory Medal. On November 17, 1951 he married the former Esther Davis in Dubuque, IA. Jim worked for 45 years at Waukesha Engine and was a member of the Waukesha Engine Old Timers Club. He loved cars, especially Fords, was very proud of his 1957 Ford Thunderbird and was a member of the Waukesha Old Car Club. He was an avid Packer fan and had a great sense of humor all the way until the end. Jim loved being with his family and he will always be remembered as a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 66 years, Esther of Waukesha and their children, Sandra (Michael) Hendrickson of Waukesha, Diane Brady of River Falls, WI, Linda (Joel) Harris of Wales and James L. (Sharon) Congdon Jr. of Waukesha. He was the proud grandfather of Scott (Beth) Hendrickson, Troy (Kim) Hendrickson, Conor (Jaime) Brady, Jamie Harris, Kristin Hallett, Kyle Congdon and Kody Congdon and great-grandfather of Joel, Cash, Rylan, Avery, Delia, Canaan and Kali. He is further survived by his sister Mary (Ray) Worley of Milwaukee, niece, Amanda Worley along with other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Robert (Betty) Congdon.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until time of the 1:00 p.m. funeral service at the Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Prairie Home Cemetery.
