Waukesha

James "Jim" Paul Maas, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his entire family on March 9, 2025. He was born in Superior, Wisconsin on June 8, 1946, to parents Norman and Bernice (nee Auster) Maas. He lived a fulfilling life, marked by dedication to his family and love for the outdoors.

Jim met his wife, Lynn, while studying at UW-Milwaukee, and they married in 1967. He went on to earn an associate’s degree from WCTC and worked at General Electric for over 35 years. Jim and Lynn embraced the joys of camping and traveling together for more than 20 years after his retirement. These trips were made even more special when their children and grandchildren joined them, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Jim was an avid fisherman, and his love for the outdoors extended far beyond just casting a line. For Jim, outings with the Campfryers were a way to nurture lifelong friendships and a love of nature. He found joy in the simple moments: tending a campfire, birdwatching, and capturing the beauty of nature through photography.

A man of precision and care, Jim approached everything he did with meticulous attention to detail. He restored and lovingly maintained his home and enjoyed working and relaxing in their wooded yard. Jim had a knack for fixing anything and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need of help with their projects.

Jim will be remembered for his kind spirit, his sense of humor, and his unshakable dedication to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in every photograph, every campfire, and every moment spent outdoors.

He is survived by his loving wife Lynn (nee Butzlaff) Maas; children Kristy (Andy) Graettinger, and their children Hadley and Harper; Jay (Amy) Maas, and their child Averie; Eric (Katy) Maas, and their children Wyatt and Zahra; siblings, Ted (Judy) Maas and Marji Pichotta (Jonathan Dovev); nieces, Jill Pichotta and Elizabeth Davis; nephews, Steve and Perry Maas.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 16 th at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 South Grand Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186. Visitation from 1:30 to 3 pm, with service to begin at 3 pm. James will be laid to rest privately at Prairie Home Cemetery.
