James Frank Marty of Waukesha passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017 at AngelsGrace Hospice from complications following a stroke at the age of 71. He was born January 21, 1946 in Monroe, WI. While growing up the oldest of four children and attending school, Jim worked various jobs including delivering milk for the family dairy. After graduating from Monroe High School, Jim attended UW-Madison where he pursued a degree in Actuarial Science, graduating with his Bachelors of Business Administration in 1968. It was while attending UW-Madison that he met his one true love Marjorie (nee Perry) of Bloomington, IN and they were married in June of 1968. Shortly afterwards Jim took a job as a Mathematics teacher with the School District of Waukesha where he taught until his retirement in 2001. Jim was also a loving father to Elizabeth Marty of Waukesha and Kristina Marty of Madison. Jim was a lifelong learner, earning his Masters of Natural Science from University of Oklahoma majoring in Mathematics in 1975 and his PhD from Oregon State University in Mathematics Education and Mathematics Integrated Science in 1986 in order to provide his students with the most current information and teaching techniques. During his tenure as an educator in Waukesha, Jim earned numerous accolades. Three that stand out however include Jim being selected as one of only 30 teachers statewide to work on an N.S.F. grant through the Connecticut State Department of Education on “Performance Assessment Tasks” from 1989-1991, he was one of only 100 educators statewide to be awarded a “Herb Kohl Fellowship” in 1990, and in 1991 he was selected as one of only 100 educators nationally to be named a “Tandy Scholar”.
Jim is survived by his wife Marjorie of 49 years, his daughters Elizabeth and Kristina and his three siblings: Jane (Craig) Brunsell of Madison, Joette Harvey of Madison and Tom (LeeAnn) Marty of Burlington as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the 12:30 p.m. celebration of Jim’s life at the Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, WI 53186. Private interment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the James Marty Memorial Scholarship fund at any Waukesha State Bank branch, which will be awarded annually to students graduating from Waukesha North High School to help with their pursuit of higher education.
