Janet Fletcher Mason Cox, of Waukesha, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Manor Care Health Services of Pewaukee at the age of 83. She was born on January 20, 1926 in Elgin, Illinois, the daughter of Irving and Edna (Fletcher) Mason. Janet graduated from Dundee Community High School and later received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. After obtaining her teaching certificate, she taught grade school in Denver, Colorado until she was united in marriage to Cecil Cox on August 26, 1950. She was a member of First Congregational Church UCC in Waukesha where she belonged to the Plymouth Circle for several years. Janet had a love of the outdoors, which included hiking and bird watching with her husband, and an interest in geology. She had a lifetime love of music, particularly choral and violin, and also enjoyed researching family genealogy. Janet always had a positive attitude and cheery smile, which was appreciated by many. Janet will be deeply missed by her children: Douglas (Joy) Cox of San Jose, CA, and Margaret “Peggy” (Barry Douglas) Cox of Seattle, WA; and grandchildren: Benjamin and Emily Cox. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil in November of 2007; her sister, Margaret Bedient; and her parents. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2009 from 5:00 PM until the funeral service at 7:00 PM at First Congregational Church UCC, 100 E. Broadway, Waukesha, WI, 53186. Rev. Matthew Noffke will preside. Burial will take place on Tuesday, May 12 at 11:00 AM at Little Woods Cemetery in St. Charles, IL. Memorials in Janet’s name may be made to the church (address above).
