Jean Sorensen

Jean Sorensen (nee Wirth) of Waukesha passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, December 17, 2018 at her home at Avalon Square at the age of 91. She was born in Milwaukee on April 17, 1927 the daughter of Frank Valentine and Bernice Ida (nee Benz) Wirth. On June 14, 1947 she married her beloved husband David Frank Sorensen in Hartland; he preceded her in death on December 9, 2006. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brookfield where she was active in the Women’s Group, the St. John’s Quilters and taught Sunday and Bible School. Jean was a lifelong volunteer for many organizations, was proud to be a court advocate for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and in her younger days she enjoyed being a girl scout leader. She found great joy in volunteering and being part of the Wii Bowling Team at Avalon Square, her home for the last 17 years. Jean was an excellent seamstress and made many of her own clothes and clothes for her family. She had the gift of being a great baker and could often be found baking in the Avalon Square Café. Jean felt blessed to have such a wonderful family and friends. She loved being a homemaker and member of the Waukesha County Homemakers Club.

Jean will be sadly missed by her beloved children; Lynn (James) Walter-Gibbs; Susan (Michael) Schieber; Pamela (Kenneth) Burnett; Jeffrey (Suzie) Sorensen and Joan Sorensen; her cherished grandchildren; Karen Walter; Brian (Angela) Walter; Liz (Michael) Ehr; Andy (fiancé Lacey Vasquez) Schieber; Jennifer Schieber; Greta (Adam) Pagel; Benjamin (Abby) Williams; and Nicholas Sorensen; and her great-grandchildren, Katelyn Doyle, Orion Walter, Sebastian Ehr, Valentine Pagel and Ajax Pagel. She is further survived by her brother Tom (the late Carol) Wirth along with members of the Walter Family, Burnett Family, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband David, and her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson David Schieber, sisters Elaine (Oscar) Eimermann and Dorothy (Nathan) Naimon, brother Frank (Barbara) Wirth and son-in-law Lewis Williams.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Avenue with the funeral service to follow. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019 St. John’s Lutheran Church, 20275 Davidson Rd., Brookfield, WI 53045. A brief visitation will precede the service from 9:30 until 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin. Memorials in Jean’s name are appreciated to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) 217 Wisconsin Ave. (Suite 300) Waukesha, WI 53186.
