John A.A. “Jack” Kaepernick, of Waukesha, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 17, 2018 at The Virginia Health and Rehab. Center at the age of 79. He was born in Waukesha, WI on March 12, 1939, the son of Alvin R. and Mildred B. (nee Knoblauch) Kaepernick. Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1965. On December 1, 1962 he married the former Shirley Ekern in Chicago, IL. For many years Jack had been a teacher at Butler Middle School and West High School. He taught Drivers Education for 32 years and coached volleyball at South High School. He was a lifetime member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church where he was an usher, sang in the choir and served communion. He was a member of the Waukesha Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #400 and D.J. Martin American Legion Post 8. Jack and Shirley enjoyed their retirement living part of the year in Arizona.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years, Shirley of Waukesha, along with their children Kimberley Kay (Randal) Dzierzewski of Oak Creek, Kathleen Kelly (Leo Sokolik) Hunt of Janesville and Kreg Kendall Kaepernick of Waukesha. Dear grandfather of Joseph John (fiancée Kayla Prill) Dzierzewski, Alyssa Ivy Hunt, twins Abagail Ashley and Erika Elizabeth Kaepernick and Jacob Jon Kaepernick. He is further survived by his sister Carol Lynn (E. David) Larsen of Madison, sister-in-law Donna Ellington of Smyrna, GA, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Paul W. Ekern.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 27 from 4:00 p.m. until the 7:00 p.m. Elks Lodge of Sorrow service at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave. in Waukesha. A second visitation will take place on Friday, December 28 from 10:00 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. funeral service at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 300 Carroll St., Waukesha, WI 53188. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Prairie Home Cemetery. Memorials in Jack’s name are appreciated to the Waukesha Elks Lodge #400, 2301 Springdale Rd.
