John E. Kuenzi DVM

John E. Kuenzi, DVM, age 91, of Waukesha, died December 27, 2024, at Avalon Square. He was born on January 28, 1933, in Sabetha, Kansas, to Jacob Roy and Rosa Marie (nee: Stauffer) Kuenzi. On January 18, 1958 he married his devoted wife, the former Valeta Brown in SanAntonio, Texas, she preceded him in death on January 3, 2019. He graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1956, then from 1956 to 1958 he served as a 1st Lt in the United States Army Veterinary Corps. Upon his return from the service in 1958 he entered mixed animal practice with Glenn E. Downing and Howard J. Cook establishing the Waukesha Animal Hospital on North Street in Waukesha later he moved the business to Glendale Rd. in Waukesha and renamed it Kuenzi Family Pet Hospital. He retired in 2008. He was a member of the American Animal Hospital Association since 1960 serving as director of the Midwest region from 1985 to 1994 and awarded Midwest Practitioner of 1995, American Veterinary Medical Association serving in 1979 as practitioner at large to review the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Veterinary Medicine for accreditation, Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association serving on continuing education committee 1968 and 1969, Veterinary Advisory Committee 1968 to 1972, executive board from 1969 to 1973, president 1979 and awarded Veterinarian of the year in 1999, Milwaukee Veterinary Medical Association serving as president in 1967, Waukesha County Veterinary Medical Association serving as president 1965, American Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology, American Veterinary Radiological Society, Charter member of Wisconsin Academy of Practice, Veterinary Chairman of Morris Animal Foundation 1976 to 1986, and The American Society of Veterinary Allergists. He was an active member of his church community, and an avid supporter of UW-Extension 4-H youth programs.

He is survived by his children, Dr. Rodney (Dr. Lana) Kuenzi of Waukesha, Elizabeth A. (Curtis) Spotted Elk of Delavan, and Sandi (John) Forster of Langley, Washington, daughter-in-law Gloria Kuenzi, 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his wife V, he was preceded in death by his sons Dr. Calvin Kuenzi on January 7, 2010, and Gerald M. Kuenzi on April 17, 2002, and daughter Elena Kuenzi on March 14, 2000.

Visitation will be Friday May 30, 2025 from 4:00 PM until the funeral service begins at 6:00 PM at Randle Dable Brisk Funeral Home 1110 S. Grand Avenue Waukesha, WI 53186. Rev. Dr. Christian Boyd will preside.  Cemetery services with Full Military Honors will be Saturday May 31, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Prairie Home Cemetery. (Please meet at the cemetery office)
