John “Jack” Wilson Alyea, of San Carlos, CA, formerly of Waukesha, died on Monday, October 22, 2012 at his home at the age of 72 following a two year battle with peripheral neuropathy and the rare disease amyloidosis. He was born in Harlingen, Texas on February 3, 1940 the son of Harold Wilson and Helen Elenore (nee Johnson) Alyea. Jack came to Waukesha in 1943 and attended Hadfield and Randall Elementary, Lincoln Junior High School and was a 1958 graduate of Waukesha High School. In 1963 he earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and in 1968 his PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin. On May 29, 1968 he married Laurel Huff Davis and they moved to San Carlos, CA with Laurel’s daughter Diane. Jack worked for Raychem Corporation in Menlo Park, CA from 1968 until 1980. In 1979 he purchased Wright Engineered Plastics, Inc. (WEP) a small, custom plastic injection molding company in Cupertino, CA. In 1983 he moved the WEP operations from Cupertino to Santa Rosa, CA. After 16 successful years of business growth, Jack sold WEP in 1996 and retired to a life of leisure, golf, woodworking and travel.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 44 years, Laurel Alyea of San Carlos, CA, his stepdaughter Diane (James) Komes of Maple Park, IL and his siblings: Fred (Charlotte) Alyea of Dunwoody, GA; James (Jean) Alyea of Wheaton, IL; Marian (Chuck) Schmoller of Marshfield, WI; and Robert (Jaci) Alyea of Germantown, WI. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Betty Ann Alyea.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 9:00AM until the 11:00AM funeral service at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Avenue, Waukesha.
