Joseph Elwell Jackson died on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Angel’s Grace at the age of 94. He was born in Milwaukee on June 7, 1930, the only child of Joseph Reed and Georgia Belle Elwell Jackson.
Joe was a 1948 graduate of Shorewood High School. He served in the US Army stateside at Forts Ord and Stoneman, both in California. Joe also served at Maginot Barracks, west of Verdon, France and was discharged as a Corporal. He graduated from Carroll College Memorial Day Weekend, 1955.
On June 25, 1955, he married his beloved wife, June Joyce Bloede at the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ. Together they built their current home in 1960. They stained the wood trim, cabinets, and doors of their home and both of their children’s homes and he was always available to help with house repairs and improvements. He was willing to teach plumbing, electrical and construction skills.
Joe left his sales manager’s job for a fastener manufacturer to become a self-employed industrial salesperson.
Joe was a wonderful father and was very proud of his children and their families. He instilled good financial values and empowered his family to make informed individual decisions. Joe was devoted to his grandchildren and in attending their sporting, musical, theatrical, and other events and found great joy in watching them progress through life. He was known for his love of ice cream and took the family to ice cream parlors whenever possible.
Joe loved to travel with his wife June and made seven trips to Canada fishing, forty winter trips to Florida, travelled to 42 states and 37 foreign countries. He had many trips coast to coast in the United States.
He will be sadly and forever missed by his children, Sandra (Michael) Schick and Robert (Abbie) Jackson; his grandchildren who he adored, Daniel (Sarah), David and Timothy Schick and Samuel and Molly Jackson and his great-grandchildren Hannah and Lucas Schick. He is further survived by his sister-in law Doris (nee Bloede) Kramer, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife June of 67 years, brother-in-law William (Carol) Bloede and brother-in-law L. James Kramer.
The family appreciated all the great doctors and medical personnel that supported his happy and healthy 94 years of life. The family is especially grateful to Shorehaven Lutheran Home and Angel’s Grace, both in Oconomowoc.
