Joseph A. McDonald, a lifelong Waukesha resident, died on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at AngelsGrace Hospice surrounded by his family at the age of 80 years. He was born in Waukesha on July 2, 1934 the son of James and Edna (nee Schultz) McDonald. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in the 3rd Armored Division. On June 4, 1960 he married Phyllis Marconi and they shared 54 years of marriage together. Joseph worked for Waukesha Engine as a tool setter for many years. He enjoyed traveling around the United States on bus trips, bowling, playing sheepshead, putting puzzles together and especially enjoyed swimming with his children. Joseph was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he sang in the Celebration and Resurrection Choirs. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Phyllis McDonald of Waukesha and their children, Jeanne (Don) Gwinn of New Berlin, Joseph (Barb) McDonald of Wales, Lisa (Allen) Smith of Mukwonago and Kelly (Francis DePerry) McDonald of Bayfield, his granddaughter Becky Gwinn and his step-grandchildren, Krista, Cory and David. He is further survived by his sisters, Pat Cepauskas and Sarah Klotz, his brothers, Frank (Madge) McDonald and Michael (Shirley) McDonald, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mike (Mary) Marconi, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother James McDonald, his sister Mary Lou Higgins and by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 9:30AM until the time of the 11:00AM funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186 (Corner of Newhall and Hartwell Avenues). Father Howard Haase will preside. A private family burial with military honors will be held Thursday afternoon at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the family.
