WEST ALLIS—Josephine B. Bennett, of West Allis, died Friday, January 29, 2010 at Froedtert Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 14, 1916 in Butternut, WI, the daughter of Joseph and Crescenta (nee: Woefl) Stangl. In December 1937 she married Thomas Bennett, who preceded her in death in 1977. She had been a bookkeeper for Buehlers Meat Market before becoming the manager for 27 years at St. Vincent de Paul Society. In her younger days she sang in the church choir at St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed participating in the Christian Mothers. She had been a member of the Oakdale Homemakers Club. She was always willing to help out at Vernon Presbyterian Church. She loved to bake, was an avid gardener and was active in all events her children participated in at Glengarry School. She will be sadly missed by her children Thomas (Charlene) Bennett of Alvin, TX, Patricia Wehr of Waukesha, Robert (Margaret) Bennett of Waukesha, Mary Jo Young of Perrysburg, OH, Richard Bennett of West Allis and Barbara Schneider of West Allis. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, sister Dorothy Stangl of Chicago, daughter-in-law Mary Bennett of Genesee, other relatives and friends, including her cat Lewie. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son James Bennett and her siblings Florence Miller, Mary Engle, Karl and Joseph Stangl and Ann Stangl. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 1 from 11:00 AM until the 1:00 PM Funeral Mass all at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 822 N. East Ave., Waukesha. Graveside services will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family or St. Vincent de Paul Society, 305 E. Main St., Waukesha 53186.
