Josephine "Jo" J. Winter

Josephine J. “Jo” Winter of New Berlin, died on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Aurora West Allis Medical Center at the age of 95. She was born on January 3, 1930, the daughter of Peter and Mary (nee Martinez) Gonzalez. On June 27, 1953 she married Daniel Winter at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She was an artist, seamstress and very hard worker. She lived independently in her own home well into her 90’s. Jo was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a longtime member of St. Luke Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her strong spiritual faith and being a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

She will be sadly missed by her children Cindy (Tim) Pitterle and Jim (Cheryl) Winter; grandchildren Jon Pitterle, Ryan (Megan) Pitterle, Kevin Pitterle, Michael Pitterle, Leigh Ann (Nick) Kanter, Gina (Kyle Walbeck) Winter and Bobbijo (Jesse Rueda) Winter; great-grandchildren Kallie and Mollie Kanter and Lela and Bryson Pitterle. She is further survived by her siblings Teresa Hilger, William (Darlene) Gonzalez and Mary Ann Mitchell, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel on November 8, 2009, her son Robert D. Winter on September 20, 1986, sisters Molly Avilez, Victoria Pyle and Virginia Alverado and brother James Gonzalez.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 14 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. all at St. Luke Catholic Church, 18000 W. Greenfield Ave., Brookfield, WI 53045. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Waukesha. Memorials in Jo’s name are appreciated to the church (address above).
