Katherine Barbara Stinson (nee Krmpotich), died peacefully on August 15, 2015 while residing at the Silverado Memory Care Home in Brookfield, Wis. Katherine was born November 8, 1923 in Duluth, MN. She attended St. Scholastica College, receiving a degree in education. After teaching in Iowa for several years, Katherine moved to New York. There she taught in the Merrimac School District until she retired. While in New York Katherine attended Columbia University earning her Master’s Degree in Art History. She met and married her husband Dr. Ben Stinson while attending Columbia.
Katherine loved to travel during her summer breaks, traveling abroad and visiting many foreign countries. Each year she made visits to Duluth, MN to visit her sister Mary and family and to Waukesha to visit her brother Nick and family.
After retirement, Katherine continued her travels and loved attending classes and lectures with the Elder Hostel. She volunteered her services doing research for the Metropolitan Art Museum and also was a volunteer for the Metropolitan Opera House. Katherine was an avid reader and loved to discuss books on any topic. Her love of music was apparent as she spent many hours playing the piano and attending symphony concerts and operas.
After spending many years living in New York, Katherine moved to Wisconsin in 2012 to be closer to her relatives.
Katherine is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ben and her sister Mary. She is survived by her brother Nicholas (Lillian) Krmpotich of Waukesha, Wis., nieces, Katherine (James) Knobbe of Centennial, CO; Janice (William) Falkenberg of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; nephew Nicholas (Erin) Krmpotich of Plymouth, MN; three grandnieces, Lauren and Haley Knobbe and Shea Krmpotich; and three grandnephews, Sam Falkenberg and Ethan and Gavin Krmpotich.
A memorial service honoring Katherine’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Burial will be held at a later date in Duluth, MN.
