Kenneth W. “Ken” Hinkelman, of the town of Vernon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at his home at the age of 67. He was born on August 10, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Bernard and Elsie (nee Sonnenberg) Hinkelman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, stationed at Fort Riley in Kansas where he was in the Dental Corp. Ken married Betty Kolcun in June of 1961. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, receiving his bachelor’s degree, masters degree and PhD in Education, along with becoming a D.D.S. Ken started a private dental practice in Pittsburgh, then went on to teaching, which became his lifelong career and passion. Later, he and his family moved to Alberta, Canada, where he held a teaching position in Edmonton for many years. Moving to Waukesha in 1998, Ken taught at the Dental School at Marquette University from 1998 until 2003. He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Mukwonago. Ken will be dearly missed by his wife Betty of the town of Vernon; his children: Amy Hinkelman of Yonkers, NY, Kimberly (Owen) Stobbe of East Troy, and Rachel Hinkelman of Wauwatosa; and his grandchildren: Keshon, Kasper, Jaramey, Emily and Joshua. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2008 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, WI. Visitation will continue on Monday, August 11 from 10:00AM until the 11:00AM funeral service at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 211 Main Street, Mukwonago, WI 53149. The Reverend Suellen F. Myers will preside. Burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery, with full military honors.
