Larry Kent Abel passed away at home on Monday, December 4, 2023, at the age of 83. He was born in Milwaukee on February 19, 1940, to parents Benjamin Ross and O’Linda Adele (nee Zickuhr) Abel. Larry married his late wife Mary (nee Downing) Abel in July of 1963. He graduated from Mukwonago high school where he got straight A’s and was the star quarterback. Larry was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served for two years, and his bravery was rewarded with the Soldier’s Medal. He worked for Spancrete for 41 years and retired in 2008. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed watching the “Great” Green Bay Packers and the Brewers. Larry was a kind and helpful man and will be greatly missed.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Cathleen (John) Payne; grandchildren, Tylor Payne and Joseph Payne; great-grandchild, Lucas Payne; and sister-in-law Ina Lee Abel as well as other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary; son, Randy Abel; brother, Alan Ray (Ina) Abel; companion, Sandy King, and parents.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 15, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. memorial service at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 South Grand Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186. A private inurnment will take place at Windridge Memorial Park and Nature Sanctuary in Cary, Illinois.
