Lucille Mary Pettey

October 10, 1917 — January 6, 2017

Lucille Mary Pettey of Waukesha entered into eternal life on Friday, January 6, 2017 at LindenGrove in Waukesha at the ripe old age of 99 years. She was born in Chilton, WI on October 10, 1917, the daughter of David and Mary Ellen (nee Gillespie) Meier. Lucille was a woman of tremendous courage and personal fortitude. She lost her first husband, Harold E. Golemgeske, when her children, Jean and Michael, were quite young and entered the workforce at a time when women in the professional sphere were hardly commonplace. She served as the secretary to the Mayor and City Attorney of Waukesha for many years. On February 15, 1974, she married Deacon Lawrence “Larry” Pettey at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and both were residents of LindenGrove at the time of her passing. She and Larry were charter members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Lucille found tremendous comfort and strength in her faith throughout her life. In addition, she loved dancing, swimming, reading, big band era music, a good joke and Butter Pecan ice cream.
Lucille will be sadly missed by her daughter Jean (Harry) Monahan of Vienna, VA, her stepson Richard (Deborah) Pettey of Largo, Florida and her daughter-in-law Barbara Golemgeske of Madison, WI. In addition, she is survived by her four grandchildren: David, Sara, Julianna, and Grace; and her great-grandchild, Cooper, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Golemgeske, her first husband, Harold E. Golemgeske, and her brothers: Carl, David and Jim. Her beloved husband Larry died February 16, 2017.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 3:00 PM until the time of the 5:00 PM funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 225 S. Hartwell Ave. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Waukesha.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Lucille’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association Southeastern WI Chapter, 620 S. 76th Street, Suite 160, Milwaukee, WI 53214.
