Maarten VanZevenbergen, 80, passed away Friday, October 1, 2010. He was born on October 27, 1929 to Gerrit and Petronella VanZevenbergen in Rotterdam, Holland. Martin came to the United States on March 5, 1957, a date he celebrated every year. He and fellow Dutchman, Jan Van Dam, operated a janitorial business in Waukesha for many years and then Martin became a custodian for the School District of Waukesha. At the time of his retirement he was the head custodian at Horning Middle School. Martin will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of family, his love of life, and his love of country. He felt voting and serving on a jury was a privilege and never shirked his duty. He posted his citizenship papers on the wall so everyone would know he was an American. He will be sorely missed by his wife, Karen, his daughter Elly McHenry, and her children, Cale and Michele, Ben and Colleen and David; his son Michael VanZevenbergen, and his children Sadie and Carly; his son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Michelle McSorley, and their children, Ian, Lucy, Athena, Oliver and Finley; his son and daughter-in-law Marc and Heather McSorley, and their children, Connor and Olivia; his great-grandson, Roan McHenry and great-granddaughter, Charley Bentfield. Visitation will be held on October 16, 2010 from 3:00 pm until the 4:00 pm memorial service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Children’s Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1997 MS3050, Milwaukee, WI 53201, would be appreciated.
