Margaret Fitzgerald

September 3, 1921 — February 4, 2011

Margaret Fitzgerald, longtime Milwaukee resident, died on February 4, 2011 at Colonial Manor in Glendale at the age of 89.  She was born on September 3, 1921 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Robert and Alice (nee Wieber) Fitzgerald.  Margaret was an accomplished opera singer who leaves a legacy of performances, both in the Milwaukee metropolitan area as well as nationally.  She was a soloist in many Florentine Opera productions, as well as other performances with Great Lakes Opera and Milwaukee Opera companies.  Margaret was a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera auditions in Milwaukee and won the “Singer of the Year” award.  During her career, she sang in Rigoletto, Madame Butterfly, Cavalaria Rusticana, and played many dramatic roles in various plays in Chicago, Aspen, and Milwaukee.   Visitation will be held on Friday, February 18, 2011 from 3:00 PM until the 4:00 PM funeral service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha.  Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee.
