Marguerite Pittenger

October 27, 1920 — August 5, 2007

Waukesha- Marguerite (Hess) Pittenger went home to the loving arms of Jesus on August 5, 2007 after a long bout of cancer. Marguerite was born in Rock Island IL, daughter of Alma (Thuenen) and Albert Hess. She lived in La Crosse until recently. Marguerite and her husband Charles were residents of Onalaska, WI for many years and ran Pittengers Greenhouse on South 8th Street. They later opened several flowers shops in La Crosse called Pittenger's Flowers. She lovingly cared for her husband who was disabled in 1970 until his death in 1984. After her husbands death Marguerite retired and sold their business. She lived in New York City during World War II, where she was employed by Eastman Kodak and participated in the sending of the very first Vmail to the solders in Europe. She enjoyed traveling with her daughters and exploring new places. She especially loved covered bridges and lighthouses. Marguerite attended Faith Baptist Church of Port Washington until her hospitalization. She has since received loving care at the Virginia Health and Rehab Home in Waukesha. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles. She is survived by three daughters, Gaylynne Moore of La Crosse, Elise Kubiak (Robert) of Waukesha and Marguerite "Peggy" (Michael) Mierzwa of Belgium, WI. She is further survived by three grandchildren Charles (Karen) Kubiak, Laura (John) Burke and Michael Mierzwa, two loving great grandchildren Colleen and Connor Kubiak, and sisters Roberta (Rudy) Fischer of La Crosse and Gerry Richardsen of Tacoma, WA. A private family service will be held and a memorial service will be held in La Crosse at a later date. In lieu of donations, please visit an elderly person in a nursing home.
