Marie Eleanor Swain a longtime resident of Waukesha, died Monday, April 11, 2016 at LindenGrove in Waukesha at age 90. She was born in Unadilla, Nebraska on October 29, 1925 the daughter of William and Eleanor (nee Lucas) Callaway. On April 13, 1946, she married Orville Grant Swain; he preceded her in death on January 15, 2010. Marie owned her own secretarial service and letter shop for 21 years and was the secretary for Mr. Worthington at Waukesha High School. She then pursued a second career as a real estate broker in Waukesha County. Marie was active in the Waukesha Symphony and the Waukesha County Business and Professional Women among numerous other groups and organizations. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Waukesha County Historical Society, the Waukesha Engine Historical Society and a volunteer with UNICEF through First United Methodist Church where she was a longtime member. Marie always wanted to help people in any way she could and will always be remembered for her kind heart and as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She will be sadly missed by her son William “Bill” Swain of Waukesha; her daughters Cynthia (Robert) Swain Ramlet of Middleton and Dr. Sandra Swain of Lake Villa, IL; her grandchildren Steven (Lauren) Ramlet, Michael (Brook) Ramlet, Nathan Valpey, and Benjamin Valpey and her great-grandchildren Harper and Hudson Ramlet. She is further survived by her sister Lillie Rockenbach along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband Orville, she was preceded in death by her sister Fern Rodaway.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 4:00 PM until the time of the 5:00 PM Order of the Eastern Star Service at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Visitation continues on Saturday, April 16th at First United Methodist Church, 121 Wisconsin Ave., Waukesha, from 10:00 AM until the time of the 11:00 AM funeral service. Rev. Dan Schwerin will preside. Graveside services will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery with a luncheon to follow back at church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Marie’s name be made to the Salvation Army of Waukesha, 445 Madison St., Waukesha, WI 53188.
