Marilyn Jo Hinkens

March 2, 1932 — February 27, 2019

Marilyn Jo Hinkens, of Brookfield, died on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Franciscan Place at the age of 86. She was born on March 2, 1932, in Findlay, OH, the daughter of Wesley W. and Lula (nee White) Lindsey. She was a 1950 graduate of Findlay High School and a graduate of Bowling Green State University in 1954. While at Bowling Green, she majored in journalism and served as editor of the 1954 yearbook. She was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority of which she was president her senior year. She married Ronald Penkoff in April of their senior year and they had three children, Pieter, Michele and Marko. The couple divorced in 1975. In 1977 she married George H. Hinkens, who lovingly survives her.
Marilyn had an interesting career, using her journalism education working for the Ohio Oil Company, the Ohio Education Association, the Waukesha Freeman and the American Automobile Association. She also was office manager in her husband George’s architectural firm, APSI, and while there he drew plans for their home in Genesee Depot, completed in 1991. She and George traveled extensively, first in George’s airplanes and then by motorhome. In 2001, they purchased a park model in Sunrise RV Resort, Apache Junction, AZ. The couple enjoyed dancing and were members of the Footnotes Dance Club in Waukesha for many years. They were active in several flying clubs, including the Waukesha Aviation Club, Midwest Antique Airplane Club, chapters 11 and 28 of the EAA. They enjoyed gardening, reading and playing bridge.
She will be sadly missed by her husband George, along with her children Pieter (Lorelei) Penkoff and Michele (John) Kosanke. Dear grandmother of Alison (Adam) Ward, Eliott Kosanke and Nickolas Penkoff and great-grandmother of Amelia Ward. She is further survived by her daughter-in-law Jackie Penkoff, step-son George (Brenda) Hinkens Jr. and brother John Lindsey. She was preceded in death by her parents and son Marko.
Per Marilyn’s wishes, no services will be held. Memorials are appreciated to HAWS, 701 Northview Rd. Waukesha, WI 53188.
