Mary D. Hood

Mary D. Hood of Waukesha passed away peacefully at AngelsGrace Hospice on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at the age of 81. She was born in Chicago, IL and the daughter of John and Veronica (nee Shostack) Stanly. Mary loved anything to do with Arts and Culture and volunteered for many years with the Waukesha Symphony Orchestra. Music always filled the house.  She was also very active with many wonderful organizations over the years including JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and the American Heart Association always willing to lend a hand or voice.

In her spare time, you could find Mary in one of many flower gardens throughout her yard. She had a passion for Roses and was a member of the Milwaukee Rose Society and was well known as being the “Flower Lady”. She also loved to bake and would deliver all kinds of delicious baked goods to her friends and family.

Mary loved to collect Children’s books that she would share with her nieces and nephews and any of the neighborhood children. She took pleasure in promoting literacy throughout the ages. Her favorite time of year was Christmas. There was always plenty of glitter and magic that would resonate in every room of her home.

Those that knew her best were lucky; because she loved nothing more than to make someone smile.   Her compassion and caring ways were heart felt. Her strong faith and grace will always be remembered with her gentle touch.

She will be sadly missed by her husband Donald Hood, her devoted and cherished daughter, Michele Hood; her sisters, Kathy Houseman, Karen (Stan) Finley, and brother David (Lisa) Stanly. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her Grand Dogs Trump & Oliver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Brian Patrick, her sister Joan Haizel and brother John Stanly.

A visitation in celebration of Mary’s wonderful life will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Randle-Dable Brisk Funeral Home 1110 S. Grand Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 10:30 am at St. William’s Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188. Please meet directly at the church. If desired, Memorial Donations in Mary’s name are appreciated to the American Cancer Society; St. Jude Children’s Hospital and HAWS of Waukesha (Humane Animal Welfare Society).
