Mary L. Thomas, “Oma” of Waukesha, found peace with the Lord Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Heritage Senior Living in Elm Grove at age 94. She was born in Waukesha on March 1, the daughter of Joseph and Jane (nee Alioto) Italiano. On April 13, 1940, she married Nunzio Thomas; he preceded her in death in 2001. She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She worked for many years at Aliota’s on Bluemound. Mary had macular degeneration and struggled with her eyesight for years. This never stopped her from enjoying life and she loved to play cards, video poker, and bingo. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter Mary Jane (“Saint son-in-law” Gary) Jackson of Waukesha, her grandchildren, Tom (fiancée Christine Hinners) Jackson, Gary (Stephanie) Jackson and Tina Jackson and her great-grandchildren Brandon, Alexia, Charlie and Zachary Jackson. She is further survived by her sisters Pauline Ford of Elm Grove and Josephine Italiano of California, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Peter, James, Sam, Steve, Rose Schwantes, Nancy Wicke, Katherine Caucutt and infant Anthony.
The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Jessica, Quintrese, Lilly, Katie Vermiglio, Petrell “Cookie”, Mary, and Brenda from Heritage Senior Living, as well as Brianna and Paula from Hometown Hospice. They would also like to thank her niece Darlene Morgan, great-great niece Jessica Hurst, Mary Sue Tarkowski, Judy Rehm, and Dr. Renee Knapp for all their help, care, and support.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Avenue Waukesha, WI 53186. Graveside services will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials in Mary’s name are appreciated to Catholic Memorial High School Crusaders Fund, 601 E. College Avenue, Waukesha, WI, 53186.
