Michael “Mike” P. Sweeney of Waukesha died on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at AngelsGrace Hospice at the age of 72. He was born in Staples, MN on June 22, 1947 the son of Gerald and Thelma (nee Peyer) Sweeney. On December 12, 1981 he married Darcy Spellman in New Berlin. He was a hard worker and owned Mike Sweeney Construction for many years. Mike was a very active person, drove a race car, had his pilot’s license, enjoyed bowling, softball, darts and food. He was a huge Milwaukee Brewers fan and found great enjoyment in being a tour guide for the Brewers for 5 years. Mike had great faith in God, was a devoted Catholic and member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. His greatest passion was his children and grandchildren and attending their sporting events and activities. Mike had an incredible sense of humor and will always be remembered for his great love of his family, God and being a hard worker.
He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of almost 38 years, Darcy of Waukesha and their loving children, Nicole (Brant) Allen of Waukesha and Michelle (Robertino Nieves) Sweeney of Milwaukee and his daughter Kelly (Joe) Garcia of Oak Creek. He was the proud grandfather of Patrick Toivonen, Ethan and Maxwell Allen and Isabella, Penelope and Joelle Nieves and great-grandfather of Connor Toivonen. He is further survived by his siblings, Renee (Larry) Hanson of Hatton, ND, Dennis (Linda) Sweeney of Staples, MN and Glenna (Ron) Woerdehoff of Long Prairie, MN, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral Mass at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2400 WI-59, Waukesha, WI 53189. Private family entombment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the American Cancer Society, N19 W24350 Riverwood Dr., Waukesha, WI 53188.
