Minda L. Portz

Minda L. Portz of Waukesha passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at AngelsGrace Hospice at the age of 84. She was born in Duluth, MN on July 15, 1939, the daughter of Howard and Sarah (nee Thigpen) Schlecht. On February 13, 1960 she married her loving and devoted husband, James “Jim” Portz at St. Mark’s Ev. Lutheran Church where they were longtime members. She was involved with the Altar Guild and many other ministries at St. Mark’s. More recently she attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wales. Minda was very active with 4-H leadership and the Waukesha County Fair for many years. For more than 10 years, Minda found joy in volunteering with the Visiting Nurses Association. She enjoyed art, demonstrating her love through painting, basket making, and sewing. Minda was an avid reader and writer. She held a special place in her heart for her Scotties, especially Michael. 

She will be sadly missed by her husband of 64 years, Jim of Waukesha and their children, Christopher (Eda) Portz, Robin (Rick) Hopkins and Jonathan (Crystal) Portz; grandchildren, Amanda (Jared) Beauchamp, Megan (Travis) Manard, Alyssa (fiancé Alec) Portz and Cody Portz; and great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Jacob Beauchamp and Sammi Portz. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Donna Johnson. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 from 9:30AM until the 11:00AM memorial service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 470 N. Oak Crest Drive, Wales, WI 53183. Private family burial will be at Prairie Home Cemetery. If desired, memorials are appreciated to AngelsGrace Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.
