Patricia Ann “Pat” Lehman of Waukesha died on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at CareAge of Brookfield at the age of 89. She was born the oldest child of Frank J. and Eleanor E. (nee Eastman) Kennedy on April 17, 1926.
Patricia attended Marquette University and graduated as a registered nurse in 1948. Shortly thereafter, she married August Lehman and moved to Texas and eventually Pennsylvania, where August attended school and worked. They raised three children in State College, Pennsylvania.
In 1961, Pat moved back to Waukesha with her children and worked as a public health nurse for Waukesha County. She loved her job and about 10 years later, with three other supervisors, sought to make policy changes to improve the program. She later worked at the psychology unit of Waukesha Memorial Hospital, where she served as the head nurse of the adult division of the unit. Pat finally retired after her children married and her grandchildren were born. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and was fond of crossword puzzles, traveling, and being outdoors.
She was blessed to have a close-knit family and dear friends. She is survived by her children Diane Lehman (Tom) Turck, Keith Lehman, and Karen Lehman-Barrows. Additionally, Pat was a surrogate mother for over 30 years to Terry Herriges, whom she thought of as one of her own daughters. She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren: Daniel and Andrew Turck, Jennifer Lehman, and Annie and Hannah Barrows. Pat is further survived by her brother Dave Kennedy, her sister Jackie Hennessey, her sister-in-law Pat Kennedy, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A special thank-you to the friends who kept in contact with Pat, and to Mary Lou (Pedro) Betancourth, her cousin, for her frequent visits, care, and support. Pat is preceded in death by her parents and her dear brother Jim, sister-in-law Grace Kennedy, and brother-in-law Bob Hennessey.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until time of the 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 N. East Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186. Reverend Javier Bustos will preside. Graveside services will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the charity of the donor’s choice.
