Penelope “Penny” Gayle Szczepanski, of Waukesha, died with her family by her side, Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Seasons Hospice at the age of 71. She was born in Washington DC on December 6, 1944 the daughter of Oscar “O.J.” and Dorothy (nee Shaw) Blalock. On July 28, 1968 she married Robert Szczepanski in Washington, DC; he preceded her in death on October 26, 2014. Penelope worked for many years at various temp jobs, most recently for the Waukesha Parks, Recreation & Forestry. She was a member of the USO, the Creators’ Co-op where she enjoyed selling her crafts and of St. Matthias Episcopal Church. Penny was challenged most of her life with chronic illness, most recently with cancer but always demonstrated a strength and resilience respected by many.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter Jennifer Szczepanski of Denver, CO, her son Brian (Adrianna) Szczepanski of Winter Park, CO and her grandson Stanley Szczepanski of Winter Park, CO. She is further survived by her sister Robyn White of Berlin, MD, her brother Gregory (Marylynn) Blalock of Seaford, DE along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the 7:00 p.m. memorial service at the Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Reverend David Simmons will preside. Penelope’s final resting place will be in the columbarium of St. Paul’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Ocean City, MD.
