Philip "Phil" Mengel

Philip J. “Phil” Mengel, age 55 of Waukesha, died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 7, 2009 after a determined fight with cancer.  He was born on October 17, 1953 in Burlington, the son of James and Esther (Zaidan) Mengel.  After graduating from Oconomowoc High School in 1972, Phil married Deborah Lyle on June 21, 1980.  He was employed as a foreman at Fox Brook Park in Brookfield, and worked for Waukesha County Parks and Planning for 29 years.  Phil will be deeply missed by his wife, Deb of Waukesha; their children:  Matthew Mengel of Milwaukee, Allison Mengel of Waukesha, and Christine Mengel of Waukesha; his mother, Esther Mengel of Oconomowoc; siblings:  Peter (Lynn) Mengel of GA, Julia (Robert) Stavran of Schofield, Barbara (Gregory) Romanello of North Prairie, Joseph (Mary) Mengel of Naperville, IL, Jane Mengel of Pewaukee, Robert (Kristin) Mengel of Highland, IN, and Margaret Jaeger of West Allis; father and mother-in-law, Ray and Barbara Lyle of Oconomowoc; and brothers-in-law:  Jeff (Sandy) Lyle of Waukesha, Mike Lyle of Oconomowoc, and Mark (Julie) Lyle of Pewaukee.  He is also survived by a gang of fun-loving nieces and nephews, and also many friends.  Phil was preceded in death by his father, James Mengel in 1999.  Family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, March 14, 2009 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM, with a memorial service at 4:00 PM at Fox Brook Park Club House, 2925 N.
